It's All in The Past

Saturday, March 18, 2017

I'm going to dive right in here ---

I feel like I've let the monotony and driving force of monetary gain take control of my life the past few years. I stopped convincing myself to take time to learn for the sake of learning (not as a career move) & appreciate the history and beauty of what others have created just... because.

Cucumber Pineapple Jalapeño Juice

Tuesday, March 14, 2017

I'd like to think of this as the healthiest virgin margarita I've ever had. This is an adaptation from a recipe in the Moon Juice Cookbook and boy is it amazingly delicious and unique. I think the cilantro, lime, and chili give it a refreshing zing. And don't worry... The jalapeño isn't as spicy as you'd think (seeds and core are removed for your own comfort).

UVA, B, & Vitamin C... Here's The Scoop on Sun Exposure

Wednesday, March 8, 2017

What the sun does:
According to the American Skin Cancer Foundation, "More than 90 percent of visible skin changes associated with aging are caused by the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays." Unprotected exposure to the sun over time causes:

Skincare Options for Under $12

Friday, March 3, 2017

I realized after my most recent skincare post that a lot of the products I posted about are on the higher end of the price spectrum. I tend to justify my splurging by saying "well... it's for work!" but that doesn't mean those products are the only ones worth using. Of course not! There are plenty of affordable alternatives.

Thoughts This Week: No. 2

Some little things I've been incorporating into my own life/dreaming about this week...

Mid-Winter Skincare Regimen

Saturday, February 18, 2017

I like to think of my bathroom shelf as a pharmacy... or an apothecary. A place filled with tinctures and concoctions I layer and reach for when my skin is thirsting for something specific. I don't believe in necessarily doing the same thing every single day. Or using the same products forever. Your skin is evolving and changing. It's adapting to new stressors, the weather each day, what you ate last night. It's an expression of what's going on inside of you and beyond you. You can't expect to slather on all of the same things in July and December. Maybe I'm justifying my (very healthy) obsession with trying new things. Or maybe I'm very in tune with what my skin is asking for. I'd like to think it's the latter so let's go with that.

Why You Should Be Taking Cold Showers

Wednesday, February 15, 2017

I remember reading Katharine Hepburn's autobiography "Me: Stories of My Life," in college. A few things really stuck with me, only one of which I've actually implemented into my own life. She attributed her graceful aging and beautiful skin to taking cold showers. You may be thinking that sounds terrible! But maybe, just maybe, the benefits outweigh the discomfort. Let's see.

Homemade Kimchi

Saturday, February 4, 2017

I love fermented foods. They're flourishing with enzymes, a b and c vitamins, probiotics, and omega-3s and are amazing for digestion. I recently learned that 90 percent of seratonin (the happiness chemical) in our bodies is created in our gut, so having a smoothly operating digestive tract is directly linked to the way our brain functions! I had no idea...

Homemade Gentle Exfoliating Mask

Tuesday, January 31, 2017

I love the idea of using a clay mask to freshen up my face, but sometimes I find it a little too drying - especially in these windy winter months when I need all the moisturizing I can get. I had all of these ingredients lying around, and decided to experiment and create something with clay that's a little more restorative.

Restorative Creamy Maca Tea

Monday, January 30, 2017

Maca is an amazing superfood with many healing properties. It's an adaptogen, which means its excellent at helping the body deal with stress, notably by reducing physical symptoms of anxiety. It also helps reduce depression, heighten mental clarity, and increase energy. Unlike coffee though, this energy boost doesn't come from caffeine and doesn't stress your adrenals, so no jitters, nerves, or 3 pm crashes. It's become one of my favorite additions to the morning.

The Healing Powers of Cacao

Sunday, January 29, 2017

If when you think of chocolate you think of Reese's, skin breakouts, and gaining weight, you're probably exposing yourself to the wrong kind. Raw cacao is what you need! It's been considered a medicinal and alchemistic food for thousands of years, and has endless health and beauty benefits.

Creating a Sacred Space

Saturday, January 28, 2017

Whether it's to connect to your spirituality, to calm your nerves, or just to feel safe and cozy, it's important to have a space where you can recharge and collect yourself. I've personally gravitated towards a space in which I can connect to my breathing and clear my mind, but really it's all about surrounding yourself with personal things that bring you joy. It's about you! I like to define my little space with tools that help me in my mindfulness practices. It's a combination of ancient beliefs and things that make me feel comfortable and uplifted.

Positivity Lists

Sometimes I need to take an entire evening to reground myself and get back to remembering who I am, what my goals are, and what things and experiences make me happy.

Vegan Spiced Morning Rice Porridge

A yummy morning treat that is both filling and wonderfully aromatic. This seemingly simple rice porridge is enhanced by some really powerful active ingredients.
